어 사우전드 플래토스 아트 스페이스는 2007년 중국 청두에서 설립되었습니다. 작품 전시 및 소장 공간과 더불어 영상 상영 및 토론을 위한 스크리닝 룸을 갖춘 전문 갤러리로, 중국 동시대 미술을 소개하고 확산하는 데 주력하고 있습니다. 현재까지 다양한 세대에 걸친 20명 이상의 작가들과 협업 및 전속 관계를 맺어왔으며, 전시, 아트페어, 학술 플랫폼, 출판 등을 통해 작가, 기관, 컬렉터, 그리고 보다 넓은 문화적 대중 사이의 장기적인 대화를 형성해왔습니다.

A Thousand Plateaus Art Space was founded in 2007 in Chengdu, China. Equipped with exhibition halls for artworks and collections and a screening room for videos and discussions, it is a professional gallery committed to present and promote China’s contemporary art. To date, it has represented and collaborated with over 20 artists of all ages.Through exhibitions, art fairs, academic platforms, and publications, the gallery fosters long-term dialogues between artists, institutions, collectors and broader cultural publics.
Led by founder Liu Jie, a pivotal figure in China’s contemporary art scene—particularly in amplifying voices from the southwest—the gallery works across generations through exhibitions, publishing, and research-driven collaborations. Based in Helsinki, regional director Yiling Wu leads its international programs, fostering cross-cultural dialogues and curatorial exchange.

〈가라앉음〉은 2003년부터 이어져 온 천추린의 작업에서 중요한 매체이자 문화적 상징으로 활용되어 온 ‘두부’를 중심으로 확장된 작업입니다. 동아시아 전반에서 일상적으로 소비되는 두부는, 쉽게 부서지고 상하기 쉬우며 점착적이고 친밀한 특성을 지닌 감각적 언어로 전환되며, 보다 넓은 정서적·사회적 의미를 담아냅니다.
이 작품은 코로나19 팬데믹 시기에 진행된 라이브 실험에서 출발했습니다. 한 무용수는 산업용 두부 틀에서 추상화된 목조 구조물 안에서 움직이며, 두부 더미를 반복적으로 만지고 밀어내는 행위를 이어갑니다. 동시에 사운드 아티스트는 ‘소닉 액션’을 수행하며 즉흥적인 사운드를 생성해 또 다른 서사를 구축합니다.
루프 플러스에서는 이 프로젝트의 핵심 영상 작업을 선보이며, 물질, 신체, 사운드가 결합된 하나의 알레고리로서 취약성과 저항, 개인의 감각과 집단적 정서를 동시에 드러냅니다.
Drown (2021) extends Chen’s long-standing practice (since 2003) of working with tofu as both medium and cultural symbol. A staple across East Asia, tofu becomes a sensorial language—fragile, perishable, sticky, and intimate—charged with wider emotional and social resonance. Born from a live experiment during the COVID-19 pandemic, a dancer moves within a wooden structure abstracted from industrial tofu molds, repeatedly touching and pushing against piles of tofu, while a sound artist performs “sonic action,” generating live sound as a parallel narrative. For LOOP+, we present the project’s core video, where material, body, and sound converge into an allegory of fragility and resistance, individual sensation and collective affect. Looping at the scale of a hotel room, pauses and repetitions gather into a rhythm, as if each forward movement must pass through resistance, adhesion, and echo.
