VIDEOART AT MIDNIGHT

비디오아트 앳 미드나잇은 2008년 베를린에서 시작된 국제적으로 잘 알려진 아티스트 시네마 프로젝트입니다. 이후 매달 한 번, 금요일 자정마다 올라프 슈튀버는 베를린 중심에 위치한 전설적인 바빌론 영화관(BABYLON) 대형 스크린에서 작가들의 영상 및 필름 작업을 상영하는 자리를 마련해왔습니다. 각 프로그램은 한 명의 작가에게 헌정되며, 해당 작가가 직접 참여하는 ‘그들의 밤’으로 구성됩니다. 작가들은 이 자리에서 신작의 프리미어를 선보이거나, 평소 쉽게 접할 수 없는 작품을 소개하기도 합니다. 또한 상영과 함께 퍼포먼스, 콘서트, 강연 등 다양한 라이브 프로그램이 함께 진행되기도 합니다. 참여 작가로는 신진 작가뿐만 아니라 히토 슈타이얼, 더글라스 고든, 앙리 살라, 볼프강 틸만스 등 동시대 미술계의 주요 작가들이 포함되어 있습니다. ‘에디션스(The Editions)’는 동시대 타임베이스드 미디어 아트를 아우르는 독창적인 앤솔로지로, 구매 가능한 주요 신작들이 지속적으로 추가되고 있습니다.

VIDEOART AT MIDNIGHT is an international renowned artists’ cinema project in Berlin that was initially founded in 2008. Since then, every month on a Friday at midnight, Olaf Stüber invites artists to show their work (artists’films a video) on the big screen of the legendary BABYLON film theatre in the heart of Berlin. Every night is dedicated to one artist who is present. It is their night. The artists often take the chance to celebrate premieres or to present works rarely shown before. They also stage live acts from time to time, including performances, concerts or lectures, which accompany the film and video presentations. The guests are young and emerging artists but also pivotal artists such as Hito Steyerl, Douglas Gorden, Anri Sala or Wolfgang Tillmans. The EDITIONS is a unique anthology of contemporary time-based media art with an ever-growing number of significant new works available for purchase.

탁영준의 신작 〈고동치네〉은 한국에서 200년 넘게 이어져 온 전통 어로 방식을 지켜온 노년의 ‘물고기 관찰자’와, 베를린 티어가르텐에서 천천히 상대를 탐색하는 젊은 게이 남성을 병치합니다.

이 작품은 베를린 대성당(베를리너 돔)의 오르가니스트 안드레아스 지엘링과의 협업을 이어가는 작업으로, 루이 비에른의 오르간 교향곡 3번 중 아다지오 연주가 영화 전반을 지배하며 두 개의 시선 구조를 하나로 엮어냅니다.

한 축에서는 부산의 바다 수면을 집요하게 관찰하는 노년의 어로 장인을 따라가며, 이제 80대에 접어든 그는 이 200년 전통의 마지막 계승자일지도 모릅니다.

다른 한 축에서는 베를린 최대의 공원이자 게이 크루징 장소로 알려진 티어가르텐을 천천히 거니는 젊은 남성을 따라갑니다.

영화는 이 두 인물이 각자의 욕망을 향해 나아가며 드러내는, 인내심 어린 동시에 긴장감이 감도는 시선을 병치하며 보여줍니다.

Tak’s new film, GAZING TILL GAPING, 2026, combines an elderly fish watcher preserving a 200-year-old fishing tradition in Korea with a young gay man patiently cruising in Berlin’s Tiergarten.  

The film continues the collaboration with Andreas Sieling, organist of Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom). His performance of Louis Vierne’s Adagio from Organ Symphony No. 3 dominates the entire film, threaded through two alternating visual themes of gazing.

One theme follows an elderly fish watcher’s painstaking observation of the sea surface in Busan, South Korea. The man, now in his 80s, may be the last master of this 200-year-old tradition.

The other half follows a young gay man slowly wandering through Tiergarten, Berlin’s largest park and a popular gay cruising area.

The film presents the two men’s patient yet charged gazes as they attempt to fulfill their yearning.
